MEDIA ADVISORY: Governor McAuliffe to host summit on rural prosperity
Media invited to attend two-day summit, keynote addresses and panel discussions.
RICHMOND, VA – Media members are invited to attend the annual Governor’s Summit on Rural Prosperity, hosted by the Virginia Rural Center on “Connecting Rural Virginia to the Global Economy” September 26 and 27.
The two-day summit will feature a keynote address by Governor Terry McAuliffe and panel discussions with subject matter experts in cybersecurity, economic development, trade policies, entrepreneurism in Virginia, infrastructure investments and Virginia’s fiscal future.
Interview opportunities will be available with the Governor, administration officials and members of the General Assembly.
Economic development officials, elected officials, business and community leaders, local government officials, trade organizations and policymakers from across the Commonwealth will be in attendance.
The summit takes place at The Tides Inn, located at 480 King Carter Drive in Irvington. Media are invited to attend all or some of the summit. Key events and agenda items include the following:
September 26
11:45 a.m. – Lunch and keynote speaker, Governor McAuliffe, who will be available for media interviews following his address. Also available for interviews following the summit kick off include:

7:15 to 8:15 a.m. – Breakfast and keynote speaker, Rita McClenney, President of the Virginia Tourism Commission, on rural Virginia as a global destination.
9:45 to 11 a.m. – Competing with the global economy for workforce panel discussion.
11:15 to 12:30 p.m. – Cybersecurity as a growth industry for all of Virginia panel discussion.
12:30 to 2 p.m. – Lunch and featured conversation on Virginia’s fiscal future and what it means for rural Virginia with money committee members.
